CRBA Community Code of Conduct

Council Rock Basketball Association is a community-focused, non-profit, volunteer-run organization. Youth sports play a pivotal role in children’s physical, mental, and emotional development, and programs like ours can be a boon to the communities they serve. CRBA is a teaching program using basketball as a framework to foster physical, mental, and social skills that will benefit our children inside and outside the context of athletic competition.

To help achieve this vision, we ask the entire CRBA community to commit to a code of conduct in line with our organization’s values. Those who don’t behave in a way aligned with these standards will be asked to no longer participate in CRBA activities:

Players:

  • I will accept responsibility for my behavior on and off the court. I understand that what I do and say affects my teammates, my community, and others, either positively or negatively.
  • I will act with respect toward myself and the people and things around me, including my parents, my coaches, my teammates, my opponents, officials, and spectators.
  • I will act courteously toward coaches, teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators. I understand that it is a privilege to represent my family and community as a student-athlete.
  • I will do my best to attend all practices and games and communicate with my coach when I cannot support the team.
  • I will be a good sport to players, coaches, officials, opponents, and parents at every game and practice, no matter win or lose.
  • I refrain from boasting to my teammates and “trash-talking” to members of other teams.
  • I will accept defeat graciously by congratulating my opponents on a game well played.
  • I will not engage in any violence or verbal threats or use any profanity.

Coaches:

  • I will place the physical and emotional well-being of the players ahead of any personal desire to win, remembering that I am a youth sports coach for a developmental league.
  • I will not engage in any violence or verbal threats or use any profanity.
  • I will treat each player individually, remembering the large range of emotional and physical development for the same age group.
  • I will use coaching techniques appropriate for all the skills that I teach.
  • I will under no circumstances engage in an argument with a referee or official. Any discussions or conversations with officials or referees will be in a respectful tone.
  • I will treat opposing coaches, athletes, and officials with respect.
  • I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players
  • I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players
  • I will strive to be knowledgeable in the rules of basketball and will teach those rules to my players

Parents / Spectators / All Members of the Community:

  • I will put the emotional and physical well-being of youth participants ahead of a personal desire to win.
  • I will respect players, coaches, officials, spectators, and families at all times.
  • I will respect the decisions of officials or coaches.
  • I will not engage in any violence or verbal threats or use any profanity.
  • I understand others have volunteered to coach my child in this program, and I will defer to those coaches to provide advice and instruction to my child while she or he is on the court during games.
  • I will not yell instructions or advice to my child during games.
  • I will stay off the bench and out of the team huddles before, during, and after games
  • I will model good sportsmanship for all youth participants.
  • I will not belittle or ridicule anyone involved in a youth sporting event–in public, private, in-person, or online.
  • I will do my part to keep sports fun and positive for every youth participant.
  • I will not demean opposing contestants, teams, spectators, and officials, whether in the moment of the game or posted online and/or on social media

I understand that behavior not in line with the above code of conduct will result in penalties, including suspension from CRBA as a player, coach or spectator and a lifetime ban from all CRBA-sponsored events.

If any member of the community witnesses behaviors not-in-line with the above code of conduct please bring it to the league’s attention by emailing CRBAHoops@gmail.com

If you have any questions about this code of conduct, please contact CRBA via email at CRBAHoops@gmail.com
